Along the Sea at Night

The dark night invites youthful witness.

Piercing through the sky, the moon.

Ideas fade now; the night is a dark melody

attesting to life

and the faithful widow that is the sea,

in her rock and sway, through all infinity;

in her border regions of light and shadow,

in her majesty that expends and expands,

from shore to creeping sun;

lost in the undertow,

from shimmering reefs to evening glow;

the shapeless wanderers, the wandering tide,

caressing, untimed, ah the fatherless bride.

By morning everything is shattered by memory.
